Faith looked out at a drowning man;

    And faith had not a doubt

But what some hand would reach and bring

    The struggling fellow out!

Hope looked out at the sinking man

    And hope had not a frown;

For she was sure as sure could be 

The man would never drown!

Love looked out at the drowning man

    And Love had faith and hope;

But Love had more - her hand was quick

    To throw the man a rope!
